WU SHEN PAI STYLE TAI CHI CHU’AN

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi Chuan, translated as the “supreme ultimate fist,” is one of the finest products of Chinese philosophy and culture.  Tai Chi is based on the principles of the I Ching or the Book of Changes and the philosophy of Yin and Yang.  Yin and Yang are the dualities of energy in the universe which are in dynamic flux but constantly seeking balance.   Tai Chi is an internal, low impact, exercise program which consists of slow, relaxed, flowing balanced movements.
Gentle and rhythmic movements based on cosmology and patterned after the movement of the outer universe.  The human body is a miniature universe to the practitioner of Tai Chi Chu’an.  This system of upright, graceful movement aims to guide an individual's microcosmic energy network in a manner that exactly follows cosmic law.  Tai Chi movements influence and benefit all systems of the body, in particular the digestive, respiratory, endocrine and central nervous system.  Through daily Tai Chi practice, the body's flexibility and coordination are enhanced and one is spontaneously in tune with the energies and rhythms of the universe. This brings about a heightened sense of happiness, peace and a natural vitality to one's life.  Tai Chi Chu’an promotes the development of the Qi or inner strength.  The energy source for all living things.

What are the benefits of Tai Chi?

In China, millions of people practice Tai Chi everyday to obtain relaxation, increase concentration, improve overall health and to tone the body.  There are many overall benefits of Tai Chi Study.  Health, flexibility, strength, stamina, coordination and balance are among the many benefits students gain from a concentrated study of Tai Chi.

Tai Chi exercises the cardio-vascular system by increasing the circulation of blood and oxygen to all parts of the body. The combination of turning, stretching and twisting movements work to release tension and allows every part of the body to be exercised without strain. Concentration, coordination, flexibility and balance will improve over a period of time and many degenerative and stress related conditions are relieved by practicing Tai Chi daily.  The ability of Tai Chi to rejuvenate rather than exhaust, makes it a valuable exercise program in our active and fast paced society.
